From the 1st to the 28th of February Ukrainian SES will join the WW Antarctic celebrations for the 200th Anniversary of the epic discover by Faddey Bellingshausen, captain of the vessel “Vostok” and Mikhail Lazarev commander of “S/V Mirny”.
Both station will join the 17th Antarctic Activity Week : EM2ØØANT, WAP-3Ø5 and EN2ØØANT, WAP-3Ø6.

This Refuge is a resting place where to take shelter in case of bad conditions or any other problematic situations with the weather or navigation. It lays inside the perimeter of Base Orcadas (WAP ARG-15) which is located on Laurie Island where at Cormoràn Point, lies the homonymous refuge of Argentine flag (see pic aside).
-Professionally speaking, all fine here at Concordia- says Marco IAØ/DK5SQX –Our LIDAR instrument (Optical Radar used to make high-resolution maps, with applications in geodesy, geomagnetics, geography, geology and many other fields), works well and produce excellent results-.
The main problem is that the Radio room is the center of the Base operations, and I can’t use it during the Base time work. In addition I must be followed by one of the radio room responsible and not only that is available to make some extra time watching me when I call CQ, particularly at night time!
The modular research facility, located in King George Island in the Keller Peninsula, has been designed by Estudio 41, the Brazilian project houses labs, operations and living quarters, and could be mistaken for an art museum or boutique hotel
Apparently the fire started in a machine room housing energy generators before destroying the entire station, which had been built in 1984. Fifty-nine people were stationed at the base on King George Island when the fire broke out.

75° 21’ 54.5” South, 122° 24′ 49.3” East, on the Eastern Antarctic Plateau, , approximately 40 km at SW from Concordia Research Station (WAP MNB-Ø3) , Little Dome C (aka know as Dome Circe, Dome Charlie or Little Concordia) is the site of ice core drilling by field teams of several nations.
Little Dome C Field Camp was established at an elevation of 3,233 meters (10,607 ft) above sea level, is one of several summits or “domes” of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, 1200 km from the coast, with an ice thickness of 2643 m and with an average annual temperature of -55°C.

During the sailing, “Vostok” and “Mirny” circled around the entire Antarctic continent, discovered and marked on the map many new islands and lands, and collected a unique ethnographic collection.

a Basler plane to Concordia, but all depends on the weather; scheduling are updated every 16 hours so everyone can imagine how the weather condition can modify the plans.
Sebastian Gleich, SQ1SGB is at Halley VI Base (WAP GBR-37) since the last Dec. 5th. He did try to find a way to hang antenna between the stations modules, but length between modules was too small to hang 40m Inverted Vee. Finally Seba was able to hang it , just 3m up on small container. 1,5 SWR on 40m but high SWR on 20m; after lots of adjustments also 20mts works ok.
A Chilean C130 with 38 souls aboard, tragically crashes into the Drake Passage halfway from Punta Arenas to the Chilean Eduardo Frei Montalva Antarctic Air Base (WAP CHL-Ø5) on King George Island.
There are several conditions that have to be fulfilled to obtain a so-called consultative status: One of them is sustainable and high-quality Antarctic research; Czech Republic has been running for 13 years already, the Johann Gregor Mendel Station (WAP CZE-NEW) in Antarctica, and it has a valuable and sustainable national, it has asked (via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for the consultative status, which was granted to the country in 2014.”

The structure of the chapel is made of steel and is used for Catholic worship by the various Argentine staff members at the station (as well as visitors). The chapel has a bell tower and a cross. In the chapel there is a replica of the Virgin of Luján solemnly moved from her sanctuary in Buenos Aires before its inauguration.
It was blessed and inaugurated on April 15, 1996 by Norberto Eugenio Martina, a military bishop of Argentina, on whom the Argentine Antarctic chaplain depends. Currently the chapel at Orcadas Base (WAP ARG-15) is the southernmost Catholic temple in Argentina, and one of the southernmost on the planet.

Antarctica is actually in full swing; Reserchers in transit to the Icy Continent, others already in site, and others that are preparing to reach the Bases of destination. It is normal that program can change as well as changes in callsign for Ham radio operators.
The next operator at DPØGVN for the wintering season 2020 will be Roman, HB9HCF. He plans to be active on QO-100 satellite; not sure about HF yet.
Roman is a new operator, he has taken his license so that he can use QO-100 setup at Neumayer III. Felix (DL5XL) will introduce him to HF for sure, and even if he has no experience at all, let’s hope he will find amusement and interest in Ham Radio activity from Antarctica!
